Domestic Violence Cases Doubled Due To Lockdown:- The whole country is under lockdown due to the coronavirus scare. Lakhs of people passed away across the globe and several people are tested positive with the coronavirus already. With more and more people restricting themselves to their homes, the number of cases of domestic violence have been doubled in the country as per the reports from the National Commission for Women (NCW). These reports are analyzed as per the calls received by them between March 23rd and April 16th which is for 25 days. National Commission for Women said that they received 239 calls or incidents in this duration while it was 123 calls that were received during the previous 25 days of this year.

Women are facing several challenges during this lockdown due to the domestic violence issues. They are in mental stress as they need to manage things and working women are the most stressed. They should manage their house-hold work and homeschooling for children is an additional stress. Rekha Sharma, National Commission for Women Chairperson launched a dedicated WhatsApp number 7217735372 to report domestic violence to support and help women during these tough times. The online portal can be accessed to register a complaint. 40 women approached the National Commission for Women after the portal was launched. As per their statistics, there was a 48.23% rise in the number of complaints related to gender-based violence till April 16th. There were several cases filed under the 'right to live with dignity'. The number of cybercrime cases too increased after the lockdown got implemented. Dowry harassment cases saw a decline during this period.
