Telangana High Court Criticizes GHMC Commissioner & Other Authorities For Illegal Construction:- On Friday, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner and other authorities were strongly criticized by the Telangana High Court for not stopping illegal construction and capturing of vacant government lands, lakes and ponds in the city.

In addition to this, the State Government was equally blamed for encouraging illegal practices by issuing GOs every five years. The bench expressed its disappointment over the damage caused to the environment through illegal constructions.

The court expects officers to look through every allegation related to illegal construction and get back to the court about its details, failing which the court will take an action.

When the hearing took place, the bench quoted “On earlier occasion, the Court had directed the GHMC commissioner to deal with the menace of illegal constructions, but still the Court is flooded with pleas on the same issue. If that be so, why don’t the State government get rid of the commissioner when he is not implementing the law and failed to deal with this menace.”

P Darshan and D Shivaji filed petitions addressing the issue against the authorities on failing to prevent illegal constructions at Badichowdi in Sultan Bazaar area and Gaddiannaram in Saroornagar area in the city.

Apart from this, Chief Justice Chauhan spoke about his visit to NALSAR University of Law at Shameerpet. He mentioned that the lake would be disrupted due to illegal constructions.

CJ quoted, “I (CJ) will be hurt to see that our beautiful city of Hyderabad turn into a nightmare city like Mumbai and Patna. Our forefathers have created this city not only for us to live but also for future generations to live in a clean environment. Telangana government is the trustee of its lands, ponds and lakes and it is duty-bound to protect its own lands and lakes.”

The bench said that the hearing will continue on March 24th.
