Nirbhaya Convicts Not to be Hanged on January 22nd:- The whole country celebrated in joy after the convicts in the Nirbhaya case are set to be hanged on January 22nd. The schedule is now postponed after the AAP led Delhi Government informed the High Court that the rules of the state's jails make it mandatory to wait for the outcome of the mercy plea that has been filed by one of the convicts. As per the rule, 14 days' time must be given to the condemned man to make peace with God after the mercy petition gets rejected by the President of India. The government informed the bench of Justices Manmohan and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal about this rule that is made by the Delhi Government.
Mukesh, Vinay, Akshay and Pawan are on death row by a trial court and a black warrant was issued on January 7th and the hanging time was fixed on January 22nd at 7 AM. The prison authorities submitted the petition filed by Mukesh as a premature one. "Then your rule is bad if you cannot take action till all the co-convicts have moved a mercy plea. It seems there has been a non-application of mind (while framing the rules). The system is suffering from cancer," the bench told Delhi government. An updated date about the hanging of the four convicted is expected soon.
