AP Cabinet Approves APSRTC Merger with Government:- The merger of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with the state government has been in talks from years but things did not take a positive step. YSRCP Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy promised the merger during his election manifesto and as promised he initiated the move. The AP Cabinet today approved the decision to merge Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with the state government to create a public transport department for the state. With this move, over 50,000 employees of APSRTC will be treated on par with the government employees of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Minister of Transport Perni Venkataramaiah announced the decision after the cabinet meeting that has been held today. An expert committee led by Anjaneya Reddy submitted a detailed report on this after which the cabinet approved the merger. Anjaneya Reddy who is a former IPS Officer served as the managing director of APSRTC. The modalities about the merger are finalized in the cabinet meeting that is held today. The merger process will be completed in three months and higher officials have been asked to take the responsibility.
APSRTC employees will be considered as state government employees. Nearly 52,000 employees will be re-designated in the Public Transport Department. The status of the contract workers will be the same as of now. AP Government is in plans to run electric buses across the state to recover the losses of APSRTC.
