TN Govt Orders Permanent Closure Of Thoothukudi Sterlite Plant:- The Thoothukudi Sterlite Plant issue created a sensation across the country and thirteen people lost their lives who have been protesting against the plant as it has been polluting the region. The Tamil Nadu Government yesterday ordered the closure of the Sterlite Copper Factory in the region which is owned by Anil Agarwal's Vedanta. The locals protested after it has caused widespread pollution of air and water in the city.

TN Government ordered Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board to close the unit citing constitutional provisions to “protect and improve the environment". The district officials headed by Collector Sandeep Nanduri arrived and sealed the premises. Chief Minister Edapaddi Palaniswami revealed that they are much bothered about the people and their safety. The shares of Vedanta fell down low after the closure of the Sterlite plant. Ramnath P, CEO of Sterlite Copper, wrote “halting a big industry like Sterlite Copper has serious implications on the economy".
