Modi Flags Off “Run For Unity” To Commemorate Sardar Patel Anniversary:- To commemorate the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged off a run titled “Run for Unity” in New Delhi.
The “Run for Unity” which started from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, witnessed the participation of a large number of people, including sports personalities like Sardar Singh, Deepa Karmakar, Suresh Raina and Karnam Malleswari. Near the India Gate C-Hexagon-Shah Jahan Road radial, the 1.5km run came to an end.
Earlier, in the day, Patel’s statue located at the Parliament street was visited by President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister, and Home Minister Rajnath Singh who offered floral tributes.

Ahead of flagging off the marathon, 'Run for Unity', Modi said, "Sardar Patel not just saved India from the challenges we faced, but he united Indians also. But his name has been sidelined. Whether a government shows acceptance or not, this country will not forget him. We are happy that people are participating in the Run for Unity.”

“We salute Sardar Patel on his Jayanti. His momentous service and monumental contribution to India can never be forgotten,” Modi said while flagging off the run.
“People tried to ensure the contribution of Sardar Patel is forgotten. But the youth of India respects him and his contribution towards the building of our nation,” The Prime Minister said.
"We remember Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary. We are proud of his contribution to India before we attained freedom and during the early years after we became independent," Modi said.
"India is a country full of diversity. Unity in diversity is our speciality," Modi said.

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, the Central government observes October 31, as a day of special occasion, all over the country. The country celebrates the day as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ to foster and to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation to reinforce the government’s dedication.
The event witnessed several union ministers, senior officials and others also. The ‘Run for Unity’ is a commendable initiative to showcase country’s unity and integrity, said Hockey player Sardar Singh.
Gymnast Deepa Karmakar said, to remember the contributions of Patel in unifying the country, the run is being organized and she is proud of it.
