RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav Appears Before CBI:- Following multiple summons for questioning in the Railway hotel’s maintenance contract case, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

At around 10:45 a.m. Lalu reached the CBI headquarters. He was accompanied by his daughter and MP, Misa Bharti. The duo are being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case involving shell companies. Lalu’s son Tejaswi, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, was also summoned by the CBI in the maintenance contract case. Tejaswi may join the investigation on Friday.

The case relates to corruption allegations in awarding maintenance contracts of two Railway hotels in Ranchi and Puri to Patna-based Sujata Hotels in 2006. To IRCTC, the hotels were first transferred and then to the company. Lalu was then the Railway Minister at that time.

The CBI alleges that there was a conspiracy in ensuring that the contracts went to Sujata Hotels, in lieu of a three-acre commercial property in Patna that was acquired through a company, Delight Marketing Company. Vinay and Vijay Kochhar, the owners of Sujata Hotels, have been made accused in the case.

The CBI alleges that the company, which bought the property from Kochhars, was later taken over by Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi and Tejaswi. Sarla Gupta, wife of Lalu’s close associate Prem Chand Gupta, was the director of Delight Marketing Company and so, she has also been named as an accused.

Apart from the above mentioned, the then IRCTC Managing Director, P. K. Goel, is also accused of his involvement. The Enforcement Directorate, based on the CBI case, has started money laundering investigation into the same set of allegations and has summoned Ms. Rabri Devi next week.
