14th Presidential Elections: Voting Starts:- The successor for Pranab Mukherjee is on and the 14th President will be finalized with the elections that are taking place today. All the Parliamentarians along with the Legislators began voting today. NDA’s candidate Ram Nath Kovind is locking horns with the opposition candidate Meira Kumar. Though BJP government wanted the election to be one-sided and smooth, the opposition backed Meira Kumar and supported her. Pranab is said to be relieved from the position of President on July 25th.
All the eligible MLAs and MPs have been casting their votes for the Presidential elections. The voting is done through a secret ballot. Both the leading parties of the Telugu speaking states have been asked to vote for Ram Nadh Kovind after the Chief Ministers Chandra Babu Naidu and KCR got calls from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy too said that he is supporting NDA’s candidate.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah were the first to cast their votes in the Parliament after which they have been followed by the MPs and Union Ministers. The voting has been taking place in Room no 62 in Parliament. MPs were voying on green paper ballots and state lawmakers on pink. All the ballot boxes from the state would be sent to Indian Parliament in Delhi after completing the election. The votes would be counted and results would be announced on July 20.
If elected, Ram Nath Kovind is set to be the second Dalit President of the country after KR Narayanan. BJP took the election prestigiously and they appointed a five-member committee with Union ministers to make sure that the BJP candidate Ram Nath Kovind makes it to the President’s seat. Chandra Babu Naidu and KCR made sure that the leaders of their parties voted for BJP candidate after they announced it.
