Four persons have been convicted, in the sensational case pertaining to the attempt to murder MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi.
The verdict was pronounced by the VII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge T Srinivas Rao. As per the judgment, they have been handed out 10 years imprisonment and Rs 16,000 fine each. But, ten others, including the Accused No 1, Mohammad Bin Yafai, were found not guilty.
It was proved that at the time of incident, Mohammad Bin Yafai aka Mohammad Pahelwan, was in Sangareddy. The attack was allegedly masterminded by Pahelwan on Akbaruddin, the younger brother of AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The court, significantly saw no conspiracy angle in the case.
Already, the convicts in the case - Hasan Bin Omer Yafai, Abdullah Bin Yonus Yafai, Awad Bin Yonus Yafai and Mohammed Bin Saleh Wahlan have served six years imprisonment. Another four years wil be served by the accused.
A group of assailants attacked the MLA on April 30, 2011 with sharp weapons and firearms near the MIM office at Barkas. Akbaruddin Owaisi represents the Chandrayangutta constituency in Old City. One of the accused, Ibrahim Bin Younus Yafai died after hit by a bullet, when the gunman of another MIM MLA Ahmed Balala accompanying Akbaruddin Owaisi had opened fire in retaliation.
Today, a total of 14 accused in the case faced trial and four of them were given sentence. All the accused were present in court.
Tight security arrangements have been made near the Nampally court complex with deployment of armed police personnel. The media was, however, not allowed in the court. As Akbaruddin had opposed infringements of government lands (allegedly occupied by some among the assailants) in Chandrayangutta and Bandlaguda areas, the attack may be an outcome of a land disputes. There might be some earlier differences that led to the attack, apart from this reason said the Hyderabad Police.
