Telangana Government Takes Up Construction Of Camp Offices

The Telangana Government has said that it has taken up construction of office-cum-residence (popularly known as camp offices) for MLAs.

Construction of these camp offices, is being done for 104 MLAs, of the total 119 Assembly constituencies in the State, said Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao in the State Assembly.

The project is estimated to cost around Rs 119 Crores.

Accommodation is proposed to be given to the legislators in the new MLA quarters, for the remaining 15 constituencies. The construction is being carried here in Hyderabad, added Mr.Rao.

Furthermore, tenders have been invited for construction in 98 out of the 104 constituencies, he said.

The objective of the scheme is to make MLAs accessible to their electorate at all times, a release from the roads and buildings department said.

The agreements for construction have been finalized in 88 constituencies, which include 62 segments where the work is under progress, the minister said.

Represented by C Dharma Reddy of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the camp office in Parakal assembly segment in Warangal district, has already been completed at a cost of Rs 68,92,448. The building would be inaugurated tomorrow.

However, the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has alleged this scheme as a “criminal waste of public money”. It has denounced Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s spending such huge amount over the project, Telangana BJP spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao said in a statement.

Mr. Krishna Saagar Rao, further added that the TRS government, was completely ignorant of the accountability in spending tax payer’s money for personal comforts of the MLA’s. They are just satisfying their luxuries in the name of administrative infrastructure.

The TRS Government has failed to fulfill its promise, made during the elections, of building double-bed room houses for the poor, but it is constructing “second official homes” for the chief minister and the MLAs, added Saagar Rao.

“The Chief Minister, has built a Rs100 crore worth second home for himself, and now is also building second homes for the MLAs across the state with another Rs 119 crore. The TRS party, will surely pay a heavy price for this mockery of electoral promises they have made to the people of Telangana,” said the BJP spokesperson.
