Manappuram Finance is a gold loan company which has headquarters at Valappad in Thrissur, Kerala. It has about 3,200 branches across 25 states.
In a shock to the customers, robbers fled with 32kg gold, worth about Rs 9 crore from the vaults of the company in Gurugram located in Gurgaon on Thursday.
This was the sixth time robbers have looted the same finance company in different branches in less than six months.
On Thursday, at 12:05 pm, a man came in the branch, giving his Aadhaar card as identity proof at New Railway Road branch of Manappuram Finance in Old Gurgaon.
While he was doing that, another man, who was with him, push his way in. When the security guard stopped him, he hit the guard on the head with a sharp object.
After the security guard became unconscious, six other gang members rushed in. They broke the rifle of the second guard and beat him. Then also destroyed the CCTV cameras. They took out their guns and ordered the staff and customers to stand quietly. They stole all the 32kg of gold. They also took away Rs 7.8 lakh in cash.
Manappuram is a non-banking finance company. Previously, on January 5 also a branch in Chhattisgarh was looted. Last year, robbers looted branches in Kolkata, Thane, Nagpur and Jalandhar. Robbers have looted six times in total since August 2016 running away with 150kg gold worth over Rs 40 crore.
The Gurgaon branch is located opposite Lal nursing home on the first floor of a building. The ground floor had the Lalit Dental Care Clinic.
