In an encounter with security forces, one terrorist was killed on Tuesday morning in the Bandipora district of northern Kashmir.

"One terrorist has been killed and one soldier has been injured during the gunfight in Bandipora," an army official said.

The official said that "while acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Hajin village of Bandipora, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation."

When security forces were conducting the search operation, militants were in hiding in that area. They immediately fired on them triggering the encounter.

"The operation is in progress and more details are awaited," the army official said, adding that the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist are being ascertained.
