Daycare Staff Arrested for Assaulting 10 Months Old Toddler in Mumbai

Are you working parents? Don't have time to take care of your kid? What do you? You will eventually put your daughter or son in a day care centre and pick him/her up after your office hours. But please think twice before putting your child in a daycare centre. Is your child really safe there?

In a shocking incident, a CCTV footage has gone viral on social media where a maid working in a private creche in Kharghar in Mumbai is seen brutally beating and slapping a 10-month-old female toddler.

The incident took place on Thursday. Police have arrested the creche owner Priyanka Nikam and a maid named Afsana Shaikh, 30.

According to Dilip Kale, senior inspector at the Kharghar police station where the FIR was registered, "10-month-old Ritisha had been dropped at the Purva daycare centre at Sector 10 in Kharghar by her mother Ruchita Sinha Monday morning. When Sinha picked up her daughter from the centre after she returned from work in the evening, she found some swelling around Ritisha’s eye. She asked Afsana about it but the latter dismissed her doubts."

The incident took place when the toddler, was left behind at the day care creche by her parents. When the child was sent home in the evening, parents saw a severe eye injury and bruise marks on her body who immediately filed a complaint against the creche owner with the Kharghar police.

The shocked parents demanded an explanation from Nikam but were not satisfied with her replies.

After the complaint was lodged, police scanned the CCTV recordings of the creche. They were shocked to see the footage where the maid was seen beating and throwing the child on the ground mercilessly.

Police suspect that the maid lost her temper after the toddler was crying continuously either because of hunger or not going to sleep.

Police said, "both Shaikh and Nikam have been arrested and sent to magisterial custody by a Navi Mumbai court on Thursday."

Police said "accused Afsana Shaikh was captured on camera ruthlessly beating the child. Afsana and her employer Priyanka Nikam (34) were booked on charges of voluntarily causing hurt, common intention and sections of the Juvenile Justice Act."
