Government Waives Off Service Tax On Rail Tickets Booked On IRCTC Website

To encourage cashless transaction among the people of the country, the government, from Wednesday i. e. 23rd November 2016, has waived off all the service charges on the tickets booked on the IRCTC website.
The decision has come after the demonetization announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and banning of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes.
A Senior Railway Ministry official said that service tax will not levied on tickets booked through the IRCTC website from November 23 to December 31, 2016.
Prior to this decision, Rs. 20 service tax was levied on tickets of sleeper class and Rs. 40 on tickets of AC class booked through the IRCTC website.
The officials has also added that the service tax has been waived off to increase cashless transactions in the country.
