The Governor of Tamil Nadu, CH Vidyasagar Rao alloted all the portfolios held by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam on Tuesday, on the CMs advice.
While making this announcement through a press release, Mr Rao said the “arrangement has been made as per the advice of Chief Minister Selvi J Jayalalithaa”.
A release from the Raj Bhavan said "Ms. Jayalalithaa would continue to be the Chief Minister. The subjects had been allotted to him under clauses (3) of Article 166 of the Constitution of India. Ms. Jayalalithaa’s portfolios, thus transferred, include Public, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Forest Service, General Administration, District Revenue Officers, Police and Home. “Mr. Panneerselvam will also preside over the Cabinet meetings. The arrangement has been made as per the advice of the Chief Minister and will continue until she resumes her duties. She will continue to be the Chief Minister."
Previously also, Mr. Panneerselvam had become the Chief Minister when Ms. Jayalalithaa had to step down. In September, 2001, Supreme Court cancled Jayalalithaa's appointment as Chief Minister and she had to stepped down. Mr Panneerselvam who was the first time MLA then, replaced her. Later, Jayalalithaa was convicted by the special court in Bangalore in connection with the disproportionate wealth casen due to which Mr. Panneerselvam once again was sworn in as Chief Minister.
On Tuesday Apollo Hospital passed without a bulletin on the Chief Minister health status. No visitors were not allowed inside the hospital to see Ms. Jayalalithaa to prevent infections. There are total two levels of barriers, which have been established by the hospital to ensure that the Chief Minister is protected from any kind infections. Only Doctors and nurses are allowed to go and attend the patient.
