In a Tragic incident, a road accident in Amberpet led to a child being critically injured. A mother and her 5 Year old daughter were crossing the road at Pedda Amberpet on Sunday night when a suspected drunk driver hit them.

According to the police, Ms. S.V. Sridevi (30), was taking her daughter Sanjana to her grand mother's house in a village near Pedda Amberpet. They had just got off an autorickshaw and were trying to cross the road when a speeding car hit them.

The girl got critically injured while her mother suffered multiple fractures. Police are suspecting that the driver and his two other occupants fled the scene leaving the car abandoned.

When police inspected the car, they found liquor and disposable glasses. The car was coming from Vijayawada when the incident took place. Police are searching for the accused.

“We found a water bottle filled with a liquor like substance inside the car. There were also eatables and disposable glasses, which indicates they were drinking,” said SI G. Manmadha Kumar. The liquor has been sent to a forensic lab.

Hayatnagar police said, "the incident occurred at around 9 pm in the Kallangur area on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway."

“I was starting to cross the road holding my daughter’s hand. We were still by the side of the road when the car hit us,” said Ms. S.V. Sridevi. After the mother and daughter got hit by the car, Sanjana was dragged for several meters till it stopped which caused grievous injuries to her. The girl is presently on the ventilator.

As soon as locals saw the accident, they immediately alerted the emergency services. The Mother and daughter were immediately  shifted to a nearby hospital from where Sanjana was taken to another hospital.

“There were three people in the car. They were coming from Vijayawada. Special teams have been dispatched to hunt them down,” a senior official said.

Police seized the Santro car (AP 29 N 5799) which is registered in the name of Suneetha Rajulapudi.
