In a tragic incident, An IBM employee died while he was trying to avoid a pothole in Madhapur on Tuesday.

Police sources said "Chanakya Reddy, 24, a native of Kurnool, was working as a software engineer at the IBM campus in Raidurgam. He was living in a rented flat at KPHB. The accident took place on Tuesday afternoon when he was riding his scooter to an office.When he reached Butta Convention Centre in Madhapur, his scooter skid as he was trying to avoid a pothole. He fell and a speeding taxi (AP09 TB 2793), ran over him. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to  injuries."

Investigating officer Venkat Reddy said that "police had registered a case of accidental death against the driver of the cab. Chanakya was wearing a helmet, he did not suffer any head injuries, but died due to internal injuries."

Sources said that "the other parts of the road were fine, but a single pothole in the middle of the road led to the incident."

GHMC Promises to Repair All Potholes

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has estimated that the roads in the city have about 3,000 potholes on different stretches.

Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said, "an extent of 55,840 square meters of roads on 1,540 stretches has been washed away due to the recent heavy rains."

He claimed that "the engineering wing has been directed to take up repairs on a war footing. He also estimated that it could cost up to Rs. 22 crore to complete all the work. Close to 119 teams was working in all circles to repair the potholes. The administrative machinery has been called upon in the old city (south zone) to complete all the pending works sanctioned, including repair of storm water drains at Uppuguda, Falaknuma, Yakutpura, Bandlaguda, Chandrayanagutta and its environs."
