Mudragada Padmanabham hunger strike has entered the fifth day at the Government Hospital on Monday. Apart from Kapu youth, many women in large numbers came out from their houses to voice their protest by beating empty steel plates with a stick during the lunch time in places like Amalapuram, Ambajipeta, Mummidivaram, Inavilli and Kothapeta.

Police did not allow protesters, including both men and women, to take out rallies. But they managed to raise slogans and stage a dharna for a few minutes.

Janga Vijaya, a 30-year-old woman, from Amalapuram said “Police are not allowing us to move freely to our relatives house and asking every detail. This is the first time in my life.”She said she was not allowed to move in a car to invite her relatives to a birthday party at her home.

In Prattipadu mandal, youth blocked the National Highway at Dharmavaram village for 10 minutes before police rushed to the spot and arrested them.

BJP MLA Akula Satyanarayana, who spoke to Mr Padmanabham, said he sought the intervention of Governor, E. S. L. Narasimhan to end the stalemate.

Dr Satyanarayana added“I spoke to Mr Padmanabham and explained to him about the legal impediments in lifting the cases against his followers. Both the government and Mr Padmanabham should work towards a solution keeping in view public interest. No doubt, he agreed to send a Joint Action Committee of leaders of Kapu community for talks with the government,”.

When asked about the health condition of Padmanabham, his wife and daughter-in-law said that the Kapu leader has refused to eat and has not been taking any fluids. His wife Padmavati and daughter-in-law Siri too sat on hunger strike and refused to eat though their BP levels were falling.
