Sangita Aich, a national-level volleyball player was hacked to death, while she was practicing the game with friends at Natun pukur, Kolkata in the outskirts of the city.  

The 14 year old victim was 9th class student, who took part in volleyball game thrice at the state level and twice at the national level.  

Subrata Sinha (20) was reportedly furious over Aich, spurning his advances several times earlier, the police said.
 
Reportedly, Sinha on Friday evening, arrived at the practice camp and demanded that Aich speak to him. Got furious over Aich’s rejection, Sinha advanced towards her with a cleaver.

Swapan Das, the girl’s coach, then tried to save Aich, by trying to attack Sinha, back with a chair. Frightened over this, Aich scrambled for her residence, but meanwhile, Sinha caught the girl and allegedly killed her.

“If Tina had stayed with me, he would have had to kill me first. And he may have too,” Das reportedly said.

After killing the girl, Sinha allegedly brandished his bloodied weapon at bystanders and escaped from the spot.

Sinha, a resident of Shyamnagar in North 24-Parganas, is also a national-level volleyball player. Police said they are in search of Sinha now and already raided several places, along with his house.

Meanwhile, Aich’s relatives said that, though they complained about Sinha’s threatening activities to the police in the past, they ignored.

Aich’s father who runs a business in the area, is currently not in a position to comment on the issue.
