Dog waits weeks for murdered owner to return

A german shepherd in Houston, Texas again proved that nothing can beat a dog’s loyalty, after it kept on waiting for over two weeks, for its owner, who was murdered at a convenience store on February 7th.

The neighbors who saw the dog waiting for its owner, at the front gate of the apartment complex, could not take it and reached up to it, to offer their support.

“You could just tell that he was a lost dog. He would follow the cars and when he would realize that it was not his owner's car, he would just stand there and look helpless,”  neighbor Cassandra Eubanks said.

Hatem Abuharbid, the dog’s owner, was shot in the thigh, when two men robbed the Kay-B convenience store, where he worked in Houston, police said in a press release.

After the bullet pierced an artery in his leg, Abuharbid was taken to the hospital, but he was dead during the treatment.

But, there was no way for Abuharbid's dog to know any of this had happened.

Speaking about the ignorance of the dog, Eubanks said, “Of course he's confused because he doesn't know what's going on. He hadn't seen his owner in two weeks.”

Meanwhile, the apartment residents left food and water for Abuharbid's dog, but the dog is reluctant to go near anyone.

"It just broke my heart to hear that the poor animal lost his owner, his best friend," Maranda Perez, apartment resident said.

Perez said, “I took over an hour to gain the dog’s trust and He was still very shaken up whenever I touched him.”

Saying that she would foster the dog for a week, Perez added that, Abuharbid's brother would like to adopt the pup after that.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Abuharbid's death is ongoing, police told the media.
