A postman has manipulated the accounts and cheated the beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for Rs. 15 lakhs, in Srikakulam district, Gara Mandal, Satiwada village.   
 
When the authorities complained about the issue to the concerned postal department, it has come out and the latter has now started the investigation on the scam of the postman  

According to the MGNREGS authorities, they observed that, as against the sanctioned bills amounting to Rs 12,037 and Rs 18,087, the staff of Satiwada post office had withdrawn Rs 62,037 and Rs 78,087 respectively from the MGNREGS accounts.  

In the beginning, it was thought that, it might be some mistake caused by some employee, making the wrong entry. But the excess amount entered was not returned back to the accounts. After a proper inquiry, it was revealed that, such wrong entries are being made for a quite some time and are manipulating the accounts like these, and filling the thief pockets with lakhs and lakhs of rupees.
      
During the investigation at the Satiwada post office, it was confirmed that the accounts are manipulated. In this process, it was found out that, Satiwada postmaster T Narayana Rao resorted to the wrong entries in the records and had withdrawn over Rs 15 lakh. Upon inquiry, he accepted the truth and gave a return statement on the issue. Out of Rs. 15 lakh rupees, he has repaid Rs. 4.63 lakhs to the department.

The authorities assured to investigate the incident and get back the remaining amount  of money and settle the beneficiaries' accounts.

People believe in the government schemes and apply for it for the basic survival. If that money has also been stolen, a small amount of people, who are coming forward to believe the government these days, will also go back.
