The Telangana government is going to sell cheap liquor from October 1st, with the intention of completely eradicating arrack in the state.
As per the proposal, the cheap liquor will be manufactured under the aegis of the state government and supplied in bottles. Speaking in a review meeting, Telangana Chief Minister KCR said, “arrack is taking away the lives of several people in the state and leaving their families on road.
“To stop this, Telangana government will sell that cheap liquor, in which the alcohol content is scientifically decided to minimize the damage to the consumers. The sale and consumption of arrack should be banned completely from tribal hamlets and villages,” KCR said.
Licenses to sell cheap liquor
KCR specified that, “licenses to cheap liquor outlets will be given with mandal as a unit. The people who are given those licenses, will only be eligible to sell cheap liquor in the rural areas.”
Less income from cheap liquor to government
“Though the government is going to get less income by selling the cheap liquor, we are not at all concerned about it. Public health is important, and to safeguard that, Telangana government, will always be ready to take any initiative,” CM KCR further added.
Notification for new excise policy (selling cheap liquor)
As said above, the new excise policy will be issued after August 15 and will come into force from October 1st. Along with this, the government even launches conducts various awarenes programmes, through short films, posters and pamphlets, to be away from arrack.
