Yakub Memon, the prime convict in Mumbai serial blasts case, was hanged this morning in Nagpur central jail at around 6.30am.
Relating to Mumbai serial blasts case, Yakub Memon is the one, to be awarded the death sentence by the Supreme Court, in spite of his several attempts for being out of the case.
Yakub Memon case: Midnight Drama
As a last attempt, Yakub Memon lawyers tried to save Yakub, by filing a special petition at around 11.50 pm yesterday. The Supreme Court judges assembled by 12.20am and the lawyers of Yakub Memon said to postpone the punishment for two weeks, saying that he needs time to spend with his family and other relations. They even argued that, the Supreme Court ordered lesser punishment to the criminals of the similar case.
Supreme Court judge warns Yakub Memon lawyers
After considering the lawyers petition, the judge said that, “the judgment is given, considering all the law points. Yakub is given the number of attempts to defend himself. Finally, death sentence is proved to be legal in this case. So if you still try to save Yakub, it would mean that, you are trying to mislead the case.”
Yakub Memon was hanged before the estimated time
Earlier it was heard that, he would be hanged at 7am in Nagpur jail today, but it seems, there are changes in the last minute and so he was hanged 30 minutes before the said time, i.e., 6.30am. Yakub dead body will be handed over to his family, on a condition that, it will not be used for protests.
A few opposed Yakub Memon’s death sentence
VIPs like MP Owaisi, Salman Khan puts direct and indirect satires respectively, on the judicial system of the country, opposing Yakub’s death sentence. It is literally shameless to support a criminal, who is the reason of 257 deaths and restless sleep of thousands of families, since two decades.
Will Yakub death sentence give happiness to them?
Will this death sentence really give happiness to those families, who lost their people in Mumbai serial blasts case? The answer might not be completely yes. The reason behind this is, the years it took to award the punishment.
After more than two decades of the incident, Yakub is finally sentenced to death. During this time, there might be many families, who have already left their lives and so missed the happiness of this judgment.
Reforms in judicial system
Many reforms should take place in the judicial system, but primarily, the quickness in declaring the right judgment should be made. What is that made the officials wait for decades to hang Yakub, when he himself said that, he committed the blast? Why should the person involved in crime and the reason for hundreds of deaths, given a chance to defend himself through petitions?
As a common man, I hope that the country’s judicial system finds answers to these questions soon.
