Family members of some of the victims of 1993 Mumbai blasts have demanded that Yakub Memon is to be hanged and submitted a mass petition to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in this regard. “Yakub should be hanged,” Tushar Deshmukh, who lost his mother in the blasts, said in the memorandum. “The families have suffered. We demand that the death sentence be carried out,” Deshmukh said.

"I have signatures of 1,600 people given in just two hours who all want Yakub to be hanged," said Tushar Deshmukh.

A three-judge Supreme Court bench on Wednesday has rejected the petition of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, the sole death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. Maharashtra Governor CV Rao has also rejected his mercy plea.

Yakub's brother Tiger Memon, the main accused along with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has been absconding since 1993.

Dismissing Memon's curative petition, the apex court said there was no procedural lapse in the formation of the curative bench which had earlier this month rejected his appeal. Memon had argued that the death warrant against him was issued even before the Supreme Court could hear his curative petition.

A group of eminent citizens, including politicians, jurists and retired judges had asked the President to grant mercy to Yakub, arguing that in comparison, "the other 10 planted the bombs and played a much more critical and direct role."

There are some so called secularists, self proclaimed intelligentsia, celebrities and few of the film personalities who cannot see the victims of the 1993 Mumbai blasts, yet fight for the mercy of the man who has colluded with the absconding culprits in the very terror act. These shameless, unscrupulous and thankless personalities come together to defend the heartless terrorists, but does not raise a single word to condemn the rights of the innocent victims and their family. It is a shame for the people of India have these heartless persons amidst the society.

Yakub Memon a chartered accountant by profession is to be hanged at a jail in Nagpur at 7 am on Thursday on his 54th birthday for his role in the deadly terror attack in which 257 people were killed at various landmarks across Mumbai.
