After facing the censure from multiple walks of life and from opposition Upalokayukta Subhash, Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao finally breaks his silence on the allegations made against him and on his son and requested the State government to appoint “any independent agency to conduct a free and fair probe into the allegations”.
The honorable Justice while speaking to the Hindu defended himself and responded to demands from civil society members for his resignation.
He said that law will take its own course and there is no need for him to step down. He even added that he is ready to help with any organization regarding the probe.
Earlier Mr. Rao declares that the Joint Commissioner (Crime) Mr. Chandrasekhar would investigate the claims on him regarding Lokayukta.
Mr. Rao’s Interview back comes a day after Mr. Chandrasekhar wrote back to Mr. Rao to make his mind and come to a conclusion on his decision, citing conflict of interest.
The Lokayukta’s hit back had also passed a stern message to the opposition, who had demanded that the Lokayukta write to the government seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
However, Mr. Rao has not mentioned CBI in his letter to the government. He defended this by saying it was not on his part to suggest what the government should do and hence had only recommended a probe by “any independent agency”.
On last month 11th, Sonia Narang, the Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Bengaluru has submitted to the Lokayukta Registrar on alleged attempts to extort money from a PWD Executive Engineer to preempt a ride. The alleged incident took place on May 5, on the second floor of Lokayukta Office.
On June 23, Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi orders Ms. Narang to take up an investigation into the allegation of bribery and submit a report on July 4.
