The report by Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson said that, "Communication continues to be the dominant activity on smartphones. Communication apps are 'always on' and are a key driver of mobile broadband usage."

Whatsapp, We Chat, Hike and Skype, which are considered as the key drivers of mobile brand usage, are occupying the 47% percent of time of the Smartphone users in the country, a report said.

The reason behind this is, the communication apps have a higher dependency on mobile broadband usage, due to the attractive status like 'always on.' Using the on-device measurements across several markets, including India, the app usage behavior was analyzed with a special focus on the reason behind people get attracting to the messaging and other social media apps and then made a report basing on all those analyzing.

According to the report, the research is conducted in the countries like India, Japan, South'Korea, the UK, and the US, analyzed the smartphone users over there and then made a report basing on their opinions.
"We found that 40-50 per cent of the data consumption for communication apps uses mobile broadband, whereas the corresponding figure for video is just 20 per cent," Ericsson ConsumerLab Senior Advisor Swetleena Swain said.
Communication apps help us in connecting with the people. But does not mean, we should break the direct interactions. Hope the both are balanced accordingly.
