Purvi Joshi, who is supposed to get married to her fiance Niraj Dave was allegedly killed by Dave’s ex-lover, Manisha Patel in Sydney, Australia. The incident had happened in 2013. Purvi Joshi was planning her wedding and had spoken to her parents on Skype. After which she opened the door of her apartment for her fiance Niraj Dave's ex-lover, Manisha Patel. Hours after, Ms Joshi was found dead with bruised on her neck, a swollen face and a knife sticking out of her abdomen.
A jury has heard during the opening address of Ms Patel's Supreme Court murder trial on 10th June 2015. "She had a knife stuck in her side, I pulled it out and I called you," Mr Dave had told an emergency triple zero operator in the early hours of July 30, 2013. Dave stayed with his wife-to-be until the police arrived at their apartment on the Bestic Street, Kyeemagh, in Sydney's south.
Crown prosecutor Huw Baker presented in the court that Patel was motivated by jealousy when she smothered, strangled and stabbed Ms Purvi. He said that the sounds of Ms Purvi's struggling to death were so loud that they woke a close neighbour, who would later give evidence. Ms Patel has killed Ms Purvi between 3.17am and 4.22am and then drove to her workplace at Sydney Airport and from there she called Dave.
Barrister Scott Corish said his client Patel admitted to killing Ms Purvi but did so in self-defense. He used his opening address to explain that Ms Patel had gone to visit Ms Purvi, as per the request of the deceased. The deceased had found out about a pregnancy termination that the accused had and wanted more details, he said.
