Sonia Gandhi out of Telangana history textbook

Telangana history is now being entered into the 10th class textbooks. But throughout the syllabus, there is no such point that dealt about Sonia Gandhi which has become a controversy now.

In the 10th class history book, a new chapter relating to the movement of Telangana was added. It dealt with KCR’s fast in 2009 and a few other programmes which he had carried down in the movement of Telangana, but there is no such mention about Sonia Gandhi or Congress party, who actually announced Telangana.

Shabbir Ali opposes it

Senior Congress leader Mohd Shabbir Ali said, “KCR promised to include Sonia’s name, whenever the history of Telangana is written. But, he cheated by omitting such a great leader and a pillar of Telangana.”

Reaction of KTR

Reacting to the issue, IT minister KTR said, “the history gets written by the victor. When I say victory, I don't mean only victory in electoral politics. I mean people evaluate, people assess whose contribution is what and then they decide. That is exactly what they have done. Who are we to deny people their verdict."

He further adds, “there would be a lot of controversy if the role of Congress has to be written. If Congress role has to be included, then the syllabus would deal with how Congress betrayed people in 1956 and how it was carried on by the successive leaders of Congress later and eventually political exigency of Congress party in 2014, the compulsion that was conferred on them by the people of Telangana.”

“The story would be so long if Congress role has to be included. So if the party is prepared for that, we have no problem to consider inclusion of that part in the syllabus”, KTR said

Intellectuals opinion

The syllabus was actually revised by the academic committee of Telangana's State Council for Education, Research and Training. Few of the intellectuals opined that, it is unfortunate to experience a ruling government’s authority on the syllabus
