An unending mystery Red smuggling case is taking fresh turns day to day, inquiry from AP police paving new ways and some interesting facts are found out from the case.
Chocolates, cigarettes can be sold anywhere, there would not be any restrictions for it. Maybe for this reason, Tamilnadu smugglers started calling Redsandalwood with these names.
When inquired in detail, after finding 22 crores value of Redsandalwood at Siliguri, West Bengal, police found out details behind these names. According to the information given by the smuggler Saravanan, police went to Siliguri, and from there on the way to Bhutan, at Alipuddar, 11 tonnes of Redsandalwood was found.
Cigarettes and Chocolates
Here the turn takes actually. The police observed different sizes of Redsandalwood and among those few are short and some others are very long. When inquired about it, they came to know that the Redsandalwood which is large will be called as Cigarette and the wood which is less than half meter, but fat, they will be called as Tabla, and it is chocolate, if the wood is in different designs. For the smugglers of Burma, Bhutan, China and such other countries, the load will be sold basing on this names itself. Various dolls like laughing Buddha will be actually made with Chocolates and TablasĀ itself in those countries. Even for making furniture, Cigarettes will be considered and are in high demand too. Chocolates also will be considered for some specific kind of furniture.
Smuggling through roads
3 months back, Andhra Pradesh DGP, JV Ramudu asked the officials of both the states to support for the illegal smuggling of Redsandalwood. Specially he tightened security at the ports using the influence of Directorate Revenue Intelligence. So the smugglers are left with no choice other than to transfer thorough roads. Now Redsandalwood is transferred through the Oil tankers and other containers. Smugglers left few Tamilnadu families at West Bengal only for this purpose and with their support, the stock will be arranged at the godown.
