Breather win for SAD-BJP combine

Shiromani Akali Dal (B) won 954 seats (73.55%). It had fielded 1297 candidates. And BJP won 365 (47.77%) seats out of 764 in Municipal Council polls.  In the 22 districts of Punjab, 2050 wards, 6956 candidates contested. The Congress could get only 356 seats against fielding of 1246 candidates which comes to 28.57 per cent. A total of 367 independent candidates also won. 28.50 lakh voters exercised their voting rights in 2062 wards across Punjab. SAD-BJP had claimed a lion's share of 74 per cent in Punjab MC Polls.

SAD-BJP alliance claimed to have majority in the MC Polls because of development agenda taken during its campaign. The decision of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) not to contest the Municipal Elections, the benefit has gone to SAD-BJP alliance but it will be a big challenge for the alliance party and the Congress as well. AAP has emerged as the new hope and in this backdrop, after coming into power during the Delhi assembly elections, where BJP has failed and created a fear psychosis with Hindutva agenda which was not liked by a section of Hindus.

This spectacular win for SAD-BJP combine has come in the right time to boost the spirit of the SAD-BJP workers after the drub in the Delhi elections. But unfortunately the down flow of Congress continues even in this elections.
