Former Supreme Court judge Laxman Reddy said Vijayawada is yet to be officially declared as the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Laxman Reddy graced 'Kadapa Akali Keka' [Shout for hunger] event as chief guest and added that the selection of capital has a procedure and AP government's statement can't be taken into consideration.
Speaking in the event Laxman Reddy said, “Rayalaseema has abundant government lands and I don't understand why government as opted for Vijayawada as capital where agriculture lands surround the city. The Union government is considering Sivaramakrishna committee and the government also won't accept the proposal to convert agriculture based lands into commercial complexes.” He also brought a new logic in this issue by question why the capital should be in the centre of state. “Is Delhi in the centre of country. Then why should AP capital should be in the middle of AP,” asked Mr. Reddy.
Offlate the statements of Laxman Reddy caught the fire required to ignite. Last week Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has declared in the state Assembly that the new capital of AP will be established near by Vijayawada and the resolution also got approved in the Assembly.
