The case of fire accident of Volvo bus at Palem in Mahaboobnagar is taken as Su-Moto by Mahboobnagar Court.
The Court is going to look into the way the case is taken up and in progress and also the payment of compensation to the victims' families.
A Volvo bus travelling from Bangalore to Hyderabad carrying 50 passengers caught fire near Palem in Mahaboobnagar district on October 30, 2013 when the bus hit a culvert when the bus driver was overtaking a car.
45 passengers were killed and seven were injured including driver and cleaner in the incident. Bus driver, cleaner and 5 passengers sitting in front could escape from death by getting down from the bus. But the passengers inside were charred to death and have gone beyond recognition. DNA tests from the samples of the relatives had to be collected to determine the bodies to hand over to the relatives.
The relatives of the victims were promised compensations but they allege that it was not done still. The driver and conductor of the bus were questioned and the owners of the bus Jabbar Travels were arrested. But the case is not closed and compensations were not paid.
The family members of the victims formed a joint action committee. Dr.Sudhakar, chairman of the committee says that they will approach Supreme court on the matter. They say that they not only are asking for the justice but also want to bring out the transport mafia and corruption at high level in the State.
Now the Mahaboobnagar Court taking the case as Su-Moto wants to monitor the development in the case and the status of payment of the compensation promised to the victims’ families.
