With the first day of the match falling on a Saturday, people in the city have been thronging to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium for a glimpse of the match while spending leisure time of their holidays in a way that is not otherwise possible. Colorful dresses, tricolor on shirts, cheeks, faces and all over the body were visible. Happy fans were cheering for the Indian Cricket Team with the flags flowing in the wind.
The ground was packed with audience.
Waving at the cameras and posing for them was the order of the day.
However, the big banners with funny and witty quotes while supporting a team, or those that promote unity and sportsmanship were completely missing.
The heightened security measures at the ground
The crowd was managed in long lines that were allowed to check into the stadium after meticulous scanning.
Police put on strict vigil inside and outside the ground with the threat of an attack in the crowded area.
A few Australian supporters were also spotted but as one may expect in a game overseas, the support was bleak. Their position in the game had nothing for the Oz fans too.
