With Aadhaar card linkage to gas cylinders putting the public on tenterhooks, Andhra Pradesh High Court has questioned Kiran sarkar whether this new rule is being implemented in the other states. The time given to the government by the High Court is a week. This direction came with regard to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against by a private employee challenging the government's decision of linking Aadhaar cards with subsidized gas cylinders.
The advocate of the petitioner has told the court that in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the process of issuing Aadhaar cards was not even completed by 30 per cent and it people were finding it difficult for even enrolling for the card. Further, he said already government has issued voter id cards, ration cards and pan cards. Therefore, these cards can be taken into account for issuing domestic gas cylinders, added the advocate.
