"Denigration of women has ruined our society"-Kandukuri Veeresalingam.

Twenty-three-year-old medical student, who was ganagraped two weeks ago, succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Singapore at 2.15 am (IST). She was shifted to Singapore hospital two days ago for an advanced treatment from Safdarjung hospital in Delhi. In total, she has undergone multiple surgeries but to no avail. All the prayers of scores of Indians went in vain as the girl closed eyes forever.

It may be recalled the girl was allegedly raped by half-a-dozen people at around 9 pm in a chartered bus while it moved in the posh areas of Delhi. The girl who was accompanied by her boy friend was brutally beaten along with her friend, raped and then thrown out of the bus naked. After a pedestrian informed about the naked girl lying on the road in the pool of blood, police rushed to the spot and shifted her to the hospital.

On knowing that the girl passed away peacefully in the wee hours of Saturday, President Pranab Mukherjee and other ministers offered their deep condolences. The union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has stressed that the government would ensure that the guilty get stringent punishment. That itself would be an ode to her!

One of our sisters today lost her life due to the beasts in the society. Let us all wake up from the sleep now. Let us tell the world now to respect the gender that gave birth to us. Respect women and say no to any offences against women including dowry and domestic violence.
