SC to decide on Srilakshmi’s bail plea on Feb 27

The Supreme Court will hear on Feb 27 the interim bail petition of the suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, an accused in the illegal mining case involving the former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan reddy and others.

A bench consisting of justices H L Dattu and C K Prasad said on Tuesday it would pass its orders after examining the counter reply of CBI which objected to the interim bail plea.

Additional Solicitor General Vivek Tankha, appearing for the CBI, told the court that Srilakshmi’s husband Mr Gopi Krishna was an IPS officer and she would influence the witnesses through her husband if granted interim bail.

The Supreme Court had earlier refused to interfere with the High Court order cancelling Srilakshmi’s bail and directing her to surrender to the special CBI court. Srilakshmi has been presently lodged in the Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad. (JUBS)
