Gilani’s appeal dismissed by Pak SC

Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani’s plea against the charge of Contempt of Court was dismissed by the bench of Pakistan Supreme Court consisting of eight judges.  Aitzaz Ahsan’s two day long defense for Gilani did not bear any fruit to clear Gilani from the charge of Contempt of Court for not complying with its direction to reopen the money laundering case against Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and write to Swiss Authorities.

During the hearing the court suggested that the charge would be dropped if Government writes a letter to Swiss Authorities even at this point.  Court says that it showed a lot of patience and giving further opportunity to come out of it and Gilani sticks to his point that the President enjoys immunity and ultimately the Supreme Court dismissed the premier’s appeal against contempt of court.

In the light of the dismissal of the appeal against the apex court’s order to appear on the charges of Contempt, Gilani now has no other choice but to comply with it and appear before the apex court on 13th February. (SJ)
