ACB remand report submitted to the court on the arrested liquor syndicate leader Mr Ramana reveals that he paid the bribe of Rs.10 lakh to minister Mopidevi Venkataramana at the latter’s residence in the ministers’ quarters.

Nunna Venkataramana alias Ramana stated in his statement to the ACB that he paid bribes to the minister and other politicians along with excise officials and some journalists also.

“I went to the minister’s residence in the Ministers’ Quarters at Banjara Hills along with Mr Babji, owner of the Chandra Wines at Khammam and the Minister’s classmate Mr Raja Babu and paid the bribe,” said Ramana in his statement to the ACB, according to the remand report.

Ramana owns shares in 80 wine shops in Khammam and Warangal districts. “I only decide on the sales and purchase of liquor and on the payment of bribes to politicians, people’s representatives and journalists. Normal bribes vary from Rs.15000 to Rs.25, 000 and they are paid consistently,” he said in his confessional statement.

It is said that Mr Vankayalapati Raja Chaudary alias Raja Babu and the Minister Mopidevi Venkataraman were classmates at Vijayawada Loyola College. Mr Raja Babu is quite often seen in the chambers of Mopidevi in the secretariat.  (JUBS)
