Yuvraj has tumor, not lung cancer: doctors

Brushing aside speculation on the health condition of the ace cricketer Yuvraj Singh, doctors treating him said today the young cricketer doesn’t have any lung cancer but they found a rare tumor between his lungs.

“It is extragonadal seminoma, located between his lungs forming less than one per cent of cancers,” Dr. Nitesh Rohatgi and Dr. Anupama Hooda of Max Healthcare told a media conference in Delhi today.

Observing that the tumor was over 95 per cent curable, the doctors said the exact cause of it was not known. They confirmed Yuvraj will undergo another session of chemotherapy in the USA from tomorrow. Earlier, he has undergone some sessions of chemotherapy.

Appreciating the courage shown by Yuvraj during the earlier sessions of treatment, the doctors said they have planned the chemotherapy to ensure his return to the world of cricket with full fitness and gusto.

“I feel he will be able to attend active trailing sessions in the next 10 weeks with the same old fervor and I am confident of his entering the field by first week of May,” said Dr. Rohatgi.

The family members of Yuvraj family requested the media not to dig deep into the details and place of the treatment and asked them to protect his privacy.

“BCCI will release the periodical details of the treatment of Yuvraj and the media should not run after him hanging around the hospitals,” said BCCI officials.

The doctors said that, despite the tumor, Yuvraj has been playing video games, going for long walks, jogging and reading books, including those by top cyclist Lance Armstrong who had made a remarkable recovery himself after being treated for testicular cancer.

Dr Rohatgi revealed that the ace cricketer had first contacted him at his hospital in mid-January and from then on he has been undergoing treatment. (JUBS)
