Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the second consecutive day Friday questioned the state’s former Chief Secretary (CS) P. Ramakanth Reddy at the Dilsukha guest House in Hyderabad. The senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was CS when Jaganmohan Reddy's father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister. Mr Ramakanth was questioned in the case of alleged illegal assets of YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy. The CBI which was working vigorously in the Jagan Case has summoned most officers of the YSR era for investigation.
Mr Ramakanth presently heads the State Election Commission. He was questioned for nearly four hours. It is speculated that he was being questioned about industrial and infrastructure projects reportedly sanctioned during YSR tenure on a quid-pro-quo basis. After filing the charge sheet in the Emaar-APIIC township case, the CBI has intensified its investigations into the illegal assets case.
The YSR Cong Chief is facing varied allegations about the roll out of public assets while his father was the CM. The allegations pertain to issue of mining licenses, special economic zones, ports, real estate permissions to unscrupulous investors who pumped in money into his companies, in return for the favors.
