Lakhs visit Saraswathi temples for Vasant Panchami

There has been a flood of devotees at the temples of Goddess Saraswathi in AP on account of the auspicious Vasantha Panchami today.

More than one lakh devotees had darshan of the Goddess at the famous Saraswathi Devi temple at Basara in Adilabad district by afternoon and long queues of devotees were seen extending up to more than 3 km on to the main road.

More than 20,000 couples performed Aksharabhyasam to their children at the temple on the auspicious occasion.

The Vidya Saraswathi temple at Vargal in Medak district was also flooded by devotees and more than 30,000 devotees had the darshan of the Goddess by the afternoon. The Saraswathi Devi temple at Musheerabad in Secunderabad was also visited by thousands of devotees.

Reports said long lines of devotees are seen in almost all Saraswathi Devi temples across the state.

Vasant Panchami

The festival of Vasant Panchami is celebrated every year on the fifth day, Panchami, of the lunar month of Magha. The ancient Indian sages celebrated the day as Vasantha Panchami as it coincided with the onset of the spring.

On this day, kids are taught writing their first letters of the alphabet indicating the emergence of their future academic life. (JUBS)
