National voters day: enroll today

Hello! Have you reached 18 years of age!! Then you have the right to vote. To exercise your voting rights register today. The process is simple and mandatory. Hurry up- it is your day.

The country is gearing up to celebrate the second National’s Voters Day (NVD), today. Special instructions have been issued by the Election commission to all Chief Electoral Officers (CEO’s) of all states and UT’s to enroll every youth who has attained the age of 18. This will be the second Voters' Day celebration with the first ever observed last year. The sole objective of the day is to enhance the participation of the voters, especially the youth, in the electoral process. The day is observed on the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. This year is specially marked to the women, the commission has emphasized to enroll as many women as possible, by organizing women specific campaigns.

The Chief Election Commissioner of India, Mr. S.Y.Qureshi in his address on the eve of Voters' Day, yesterday, said that more and more young voters should come forward to vote. As per statistics nearly 3.83 Cr new voter registrations have been registered across the country. The qualifying date was January 01, 2012. Nearly 1.11 Cr among them were in the age group of 18-19, on the qualifying date. Remarkably the previous year 52 lakh youth were enrolled on this day. This was the biggest empowerment of youth on a single day anywhere in the world. This year authorities plan the figures would double.

The state proposes to celebrate NVD in a grand way. The election commission has made elaborate arrangements to empower more youth with voting rights. At Hyderabad the state wide enrolment event shall be inaugurated by the His Excellency the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Narasimhan, at Ravindrabharathi. Statewide the commission has organized over sixty six thousand vote enrolment centers. Here apart from enrolment, one could avail the facility to get corrections done too. The centers shall work from 10 am to 1pm. One could avail the facility online by visiting www.ceoandhra.nic.in also.

Since independence, the Election Commission of India has conducted 15 General Elections to the Lok Sabha (House of the People) and 331 general elections to State Legislative Assemblies, thus facilitating peaceful, orderly and democratic transfer of power.    (With inputs from the Internet-AarKay)
