Telugu Desam Party is going all out to woo the backward castes of the state by giving more posts to leaders from the BC section. In fact most of the parties are also functioning on the same lines. But the situation in TDP is different as it was a known fact that TDP thrived on the BC support right from the beginning. The founder of the party Late N T Ramarao also highlighted the issue that the BC was the neglected lot while Congress was in power. With this he rode to power with thumping majority. Such was the power of the BC, and the BCs were predominant in the Telangana region.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on its side exploited the BC vote bank and bagged the T-Seats to greater extent with its ideology of separate T-state, in 2009. So the equation arrived at, by the TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu (NCB) to garner power in the coming general elections in 2014, would be to regain back the BC vote bank. The BC vote bank will play the trump card in the coming elections in Telangana and the statewide too. And the TDP also knows that to fight strongly in a triangular fight, a solid base is required.
The Warangal visit of NCB was only testing the waters of T-region, which is predominantly dominated by the BC. Though the rich BC leaders are funding the party, it is the rich vote base that would play vital in the power race. The TDP leader has derived his statistics from the recent developments in the state. With the advent of YSR Congress the Reddy community has turned firmly to the YSR clan. The other sect that was supporting the TDP was the SC which had turned towards Congress courtesy to Damodar Rajanarasimha. Hence the only option with the TDP seems to lure the BC sects.
