Naidu leads rally against power tariff hike, arrested

The police today arrested TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and scores of his party leaders and activists in Hyderabad after foiling their protest rally aimed at opposing the hike in power tariff.

Naidu and hundreds of party activists, accompanied by several second rung leaders, began their Padayatra at the NTR Trust Bhavan and proceeded towards the Vidyut Soudha at Khairatabad where a massive demonstration was proposed.
As Naidu and his party supporters reached Road No. 3 of Banjara Hills raising slogans against the Government and the hike in power tariff, police stopped their rally and asked them to go back.

The former chief minister and his followers refused to go back and resorted to a dharna on the main road bringing the peak hour traffic to a halt.

Police than arrested Naidu and other top leaders of the TDP along with some leading activists and took them to the Banjara Hills police station. As the news of the arrest of Naidu spread like wildfire, hundreds of TDP activists headed for the BJ police station and demanded his release. (JUBS)
