Even as pressure is mounting on the Government from the Team Anna to bring the country’s premier investigative agency CBI under the purview of Lok Pal, the government has decided to introduce the proposed bill in the Lok Sabha tomorrow.
While the anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare threatened to go on fast from Dec 27 if changes are not made in the proposed bill to bring CBI into the command of the Lok Pal, congress president Sonia Gandhi has vowed to fight in the parliament to ensure that the proposed bill as approved by the Cabinet is passed.
Once the Government introduces the bill tomorrow, the Lok Pal bill introduced by the Government in the monsoon session will be withdrawn by the government.
Reports said that the BJP has accepted the Government’s proposal to discuss the bill for three days beginning Dec 27. However, there is no clarity whether the Government will make changes in the proposed bill to bring CBI under the jurisdiction of Lok Pal.
Government decided to extend the parliament session by three more days till Dec 29 to discuss the bill after the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee held discussions with BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, LK Advani and Arun Jaitley this afternoon. (JUBS)
