In what could be a warning to those who incite violence in the name of Telangana agitation, government issued orders on Tuesday detaining TRS leader Dr Cheruku Sudhakar, 50, for a period of one year.
The orders were issued under the National Security Act (NSA) after the advisory board confirmed it on Monday. As there are 18 cases pending against him under the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Amendment Act and Damage to Public and Private Properties Act, Nalgonda district collector issued orders for his preventive detention on Nov 9.
The NSA advisory board, chaired by Justice T.L.N. Reddy, confirmed it on December 5 and the Chief Secretary Mr Pankaj Dwivedi issued the orders on Tuesday.
The NSA gives powers to the Government to issue orders for preventive detention of persons involved in violence affecting peace and public order. The preventive detention is meant for preventing further disruption of peace.
The NSA advisory board confirmed the order after going through the records of his involvement in crimes and after hearing the arguments of police officials, Dr Sudhakar and his wife, son, sisters and other family members.
Dr Cheruku Sudhakar is a private medical practitioner from Nakrekal in Nalgonda district and is a member of the TRS politburo. He is presently lodged in Warangal Central Jail.(JUBS)
