CBI court reserves order on Gali special prisoner status

The special CBI court in Hyderabad today reserved its order for Friday on the petitions filed by mining mafia don Mr Gali Janardhan Reddy and his brother in law Mr BV Srinivasa reddy who sought category A prisoner status for them in the jail.

Counsel for the petitioners argued their clients needed special prisoner status in the jail in tune with their social standing in the society. They said their clients should be shifted to special independent A category rooms treating them as special prisoners.

Objecting to the petition, CBI counsel said that Gali and his brother in law enjoyed no special status in society before they took mining leases in Obulapuram and they don’t deserve special prisoner status.

The courts in the past sanctioned similar special prisoner status to Mr Ramalinga Raju, the main accused in the Rs.14,000 Cr accounting fraud in the former Satyam Computers.

Both Gali Janardhan Reddy and BV Srinivasa reddy are cooling their heels in the Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad ever since their arrest on Sept 5 in the illegal mining case.
