The CBI sleuths on Tuesday questioned senior IAS officer Ms Janaki Kondapi in the illegal mining case registered against the mining mafia don Mr Gali Janardhan reddy and his brother in law Mr Srinivasa reddy.
Janaki was asked to reply on her issuing a GO during her tenure as the special chief secretary of forest and environment department facilitating Gali Janardhan reddy-owned Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) and some more companies export the illegal iron ore to several countries easily.
Janaki was appointed as the chairwoman of the Pollution Control Board after her retirement recently.
Obtaining transport permits from the forest and mining departments for offshore shipments was compulsory for any mining company but the GO issued by Janaki Kondapi had done away with the system. The GO permitted the miners to export iron ore without taking any permission from the forest department.
The IAS officer reportedly told the CBI officials that she had issued the GO in a routine manner and there was no intention to help any particular company or organization or individual with the GO.
