The adverse affect of the all people’s strike (Sakala Janula Samme) of the state government employees has begun to take its toll in the form of power cuts from today.
The government announced a two-hour power cut with immediate effect in the city and the Ranga Reddy district. Most of the industries, located in and around Hyderabad and the Rangareddy district, will now be adversely affected.
The government said in a statement that the power cut was necessitated because the coal production in the Singareni Collieries has reduced to zero due to the strike of its employees from September 13. Due to lack of coal supplies, the production of thermal power was also badly affected in the state.
After the mass general strike began nine days ago, Hyderabad continued to have its normal public life with shops, business establishments, petrol pumps, shopping malls and corporate and private offices functioning normally though life continued to be affected across Telangana districts.
While the RTC staff joined the mass general strike on Monday, the GHMC staff joined it on Tuesday. Today, the electricity department employees also joined the strike and from tomorrow, employees of more departments are likely to join.
The GHMC employees have stopped collecting garbage and cleaning the city roads since Tuesday and the electricity department employees said they would attend only emergency works from today.
Adding to these woes, the government has imposed power cuts indicating that things would worsen in the Hyderabad city in the days to come.
