The Chennai High Court today ordered the execution of the capital punishment to the killers of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on September 9.
The three accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan, who have been lodged in the Vellore jail in Tamil Nadu, will be hanged accordingly on the said date.
The fourth accused in the case Ms. Nalini will undergo life imprisonment. She is also presently lodged in the Vellore prison. The execution of the death sentence of the three accused is long overdue as their mercy petitions were kept pending for a long time.
Recently, President Pratibha Patil had rejected their clemency petitions following which the Chennai High Court ordered the implementation of the death sentence on September 9.
